Jim is right - there is nothing (permanent) you can do about it. When you heat polished metal, crome-covered or not, the colour will change. At 230 degrees (Celsius) it turns yellow, then darkens to violet at 240 and turns blue at about 250 degrees. If it gets hotter than that, it turns gray. We blacksmith use the colourscale frequently when tempering steel. The only thing I know that can help you is painting the pipe with heat-resistant black paint. However, if you decide to paint it you must first scrape off the crome, otherwise the paint won't stick to it.
